Are you Japanese ? I am studying chinese in university in Paris, I have some friends who are studying japanese in the same university. It is always funny to compare sounds and prononciation of kanji and sinogramms and see the differences of evolution between both languages. But japanese kanji are not always exactly similar to sinogramms : either sinogramms have been simplified, either kanji (which come from traditional writing of chinese) have been simplified differently by Japaneses themselves. And is it useful to remind existence of kanas ?

Do you know Fabienne Verdier ? This is a French artist who spent ten years in China, in Chongqing, under maoïst power, with a master calligraph who taught her calligraphy. It was totally forbidden under Mao to practice, learn or teach calligraphy, because only intellectuals were able to understand how to do it, how to read it, and how to teach it, and intellectuals were considerated as people's ennemy and were sent to the countryside to work. Fabienne Verdier had to learn chinese by herself, and during seven years she wasn't allowed to touch a brush at any times : she was sent all day in the nature, and had to feel all the lines, holes, hills, movements, textures of the landscape around her...

It is chinese, and not japanese, but it is a wonderful work, I can't recommend you strongly enough to go to see her work ! :)

And finally : I love your calligraphy ! Where did you learn it ?

P.S. : I am from France, my english is not perfect, excuse me^^
